Glass Torso

Glass Torso, 1996, fusion cast glass, 24” x 10” x 6”

Starting in 1996, I made molds of stainless steel with ceramic fiber linings. Into these molds, I would use mostly clear crushed glass (frit) and colors of powdered glass, fuse to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, then grind and polish the edges and front surface that was facing in the mold to get a smooth finish. I did five of these glass Torsos out of a series of seven. The crushed glass frit embeded with colored powders would ricochet light in the thick areas (up to three inches) and make for a dazzling. effect.
