Lola
Lola Sculpture
Lola Sculpture, forged and welded stainless steel, 39” x 24” x 12”, 2008, was the study made for the commission at the Berkshire South Regional Community Center to honor Edwin Jaffe, founder of the center. He loved to photograph flowers so I took one of his bulb images and made it more figurative to have the feeling of a community. His wife, Lola, commissioned the piece and bought the study to have at her home. It came back to me when she passed on at 95. The finished sculpture for the community center was over 9’ tall. Notice the stainless steel armature below the surface of there full size sculpture. The model Lola was formed without armature but with added difficulty. this was the project where I started using armature for any figurative sculpture.
